Awww, yeah! Wonda Boy In Da House!

• Took yesterday off from blogging and the internet. Thought maybe I should "unplug" a little while and take care of all the things I've been putting off.
• I actually went out Saturday night. I didn't have to work--so why not? My first stop was the Allegro and it was terrible. If you're over 21 they make you wear these flourescent wrist bands to show your old enough to drink, and I hate wearing those. It was freezing cold in there, it was dead, and they were playing really crappy music. The upside was I saw my buddy Shawn there. I don't see him that often, so that was a nice surprise. He has got the nicest teeth I've ever seen and they're blindingly white--I'm so envious.
  After that I went to the Hippo. I was too cheap to pay the $7 cover charge to go to the dance side, so I hung out in the video bar mostly. I didn't see many people I knew, which was actually a very good thing.
  I did run into Jason, though, which was good. He gave me a hug that squeezed all the air out of my lungs! *whoo!*
• They called me to come in a little earlier than usual yesterday at work. Apparently these were 2 call-outs or something. The restaraunt was slammed. I was running around like a maniac just to keep up. Tips were good for a change, which was surprising. Sunday's tips are always the worst. And these are Church people mostly! I guess they figure they gave 10% to the Lord, giving me 15% is sacriligious or something. I got a couple of tracts with my tips which was really cool. I enjoy reading those.
• Back to work again tonight. I got major dollar signs in my eyes. It's all about the Benjamins.

Sleepless in Baltimore

• I woke up to a beautiful day! It took awhile to get to sleep last night, though. I can’t understand why. I didn’t have anything on my mind. No worries I can think of. But I spent a good three hours tossing and turning and watching the time get later and later. I feel OK now, but I’m going to be exhausted later, I can tell already.
• I want just 10% of Geico’s ad budget. I’d be totally set for life. Every fuggin’ time I turn on the TV I see that damn talking gecko!
• Humming along to a Mitsubishi commercial I was surprised to discover it was Dirty Vegas’ “Days Go By”. I’ve been hearing it alot at the Hippo lately. They’ve been playing the video every time I go there.
• Putting my “request off” for my birthday now. I feel my birthday is like my own personal holiday. I never work on my birthday. Now I just gotta figure out what I wanna do. Thought about taking another trip to New York. I love New York in the autumn. I have plenty of time to figure it out, though.

Yet another Friday Five:

1. What are your favorite ways to relax and unwind?
Lounging around my apartment in sweatclothes watching TV or reading. Working hard at doing absoloutley nothing. Anytime I don’t have anywhere to be or anything that needs doing is totally the best.

2. What do you do the moment you get home from work/school/errands?
Right after work I like to jump in the shower to wash the restaurant (and the smells it brings) off of me.

3. What are your favorite aromatherapeutic smells?
I’ve never tried “aromatherapy” per se, but I love the smell of cinnamon, and the smell of bread baking. I had this energizing tangeringe scented oil I got for a present once. It smelled good, but I didn’t feel any more energized than I normally do.

4. Do you feel more relaxed with a group of friends or hanging out by yourself?
By myself, usually. I enjoy hanging out with friends, but when I’m alone I’m totally at ease.

5. What is something that you feel is relaxing but most people don't?
I get really relaxed when I groom myself: style my hair, trim my fingernails, shave my face. When I’m taking care of the phsical stuff I feel great. I’m Getting Things Done.

The Power of Positive Thinking

• It’s dreary and rainy, but for some reason I’m totally refreshed and bursting with energy. I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, though. Just gonna enjoy it while it lasts.
  
• The Big Brother 3 finale was last night. It’s finally over, thank goodness. My VCR will get a break from taping it 3 times a week (until next summer, that is.) ’Congrats to Lisa who won the vote 9-1. You go, girl!
  
• Totally in love with Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in The Fellowship of the Ring. Isn’t he hot?
  
• I’ve been sending positive thought waves to my buddy Fireguy who started his job last Monday. I have no doubt he’ll do splendidly. He’s very capable.
  

Breakfast of Champions

Went out last night and it was dead everywhere. I didn’t expect much on a Tuesday night, but I expected more than that!
I need to start going out on weekend nights more.

Usually when I go out I stick with my usual Bourbon & Coke, but lately I’ve been drinking a cocktail called a Blue Monday. Here is the recipe:

Blue Monday
4 parts Vodka
2 parts Cointreau (a type of triple sec)
1 part Blue Curacao
Mix gently and pour into a chilled glass.
Serve in a cocktail or Martini glass.

It’s tasty, and rather potent too, so drink carefully!

One Ring To Control Them All

Finally saw The Fellowship of the Ring last night.
I wish I could compare it to the book, but the only Tolkien I’ve read was The Hobbit back in 7th grade for a book report.
The movie was actually quite good. It was kind of long though—nearly 3 hours! Glad I was home and not a movie theater so I could smoke while watching it and pause it to grab a snack and go to the bathroom.
It was a very realistic portrayal of what Middle Earth might have been like if it had existed. Visually, the film is stunning, and the special effects were amazing.
The Two Towers, the sequel, is due out in January. I’m gonna see this one in the theater no matter how long it is or how numb my butt gets for sitting so long.

Proud Of The Skin I'm In!

I've been seeing Baltimore art photographer Amos Baderscher all over the place recently. I met him years ago through my friend Duane, who was a model for him.

Amos said I'd be perfect as a model if I lost 20-30 pounds and handed me his card.
This was back when I was nearly a human skeleton weighing 135 pounds fully clothed and soaking wet.

The idea of being a model was so alluring that, for a brief moment, I actually was considering it. Then I thought "How can I possibly lose any more weight? I'm living on Oodles of Noodles, cigarettes and Tab!"

I was reminded of all of this when I was watching this program about body image on one of those educational channels
(I forget if it was TLC, the Discovery Channel, or what)
and they had all these models who were beautiful---totally gorgeous --and they were all literally starving themselves and were saying how they thought they were fat and ugly. It was really sad that all these girls were feeling that way about themselves.
Anyway, I never did lose the weight (thank goodness), and I never did call him back. I'm not gonna kill myself to have some pretty pictures taken.
It took awhile for me to accept myself the way I am.

I wouldn't change that for anything!

Browsing through Best Buy I found my next cell phone.
Yay!
If I’d had the money in my pocket right then I would have it already. That’s why I don’t carry a lot of cash on me, and I don’t allow myself to use the ATM card unless I really need to.
I keep myself out of trouble that way!

Tarred

Tired from work. It was very slow in the restaurant so I was feeling lazy and sluggish and not feeling like doing anything. Then, out of the blue, a big party of 48 came in and I had to run around like a madman to set up for it. They were a very nice group, though. They weren’t that demanding, didn’t make much of a mess, and they left a generous tip. What more could I ask for?

A cute new waiter started the other day. I couldn’t place his accent and it turned out he just moved here from Arkansas. He seems to know what he’s doing, so maybe he’ll last more than a week. People come and go so quickly at my restaurant!

Checked out A Density of Souls by Christopher Rice from the library. I haven’t started it yet, but judging from the synopsis on the book jacket, it’s gonna be great! I’m so psyched!

Constant Craving

I've been dying for a hotdog with mustard, chopped onion, and chili sauce. No relish, and for the love of God, no ketchup. Just have a taste for one, for some reason. Maybe I should take a trip to the hotdog stand down the street.

1. Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people?
Usually. At least I try to. I try to touch base with people on a regular basis. It’s sometimes difficult. Everyone I know always has a lot going on.

2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why?
Oh, email, definitely! If I get an email, I’ll usually reply within 2 days or so. If I make a call to someone who lives close it’s usually “When do you wanna meet for drinks/lunch/whatever?” Why gab on the phone when you could be face-to-face? Calls from people far away can be longish. That’s OK and kind of expected, especially if it’s been awhile since we’ve talked. There’s usually a lot to catch up on. I don’t send snail mail at all.

3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it?
There’s one on my AOL, but I usually turn it off. When I’m online, I’m usually doing something (sending email, blogging, whatever) and the ping! and “pop-up” effect of the IMs are distracting.

4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away?
Most live nearby.

5. Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"?
I belive that distance really does make the heart grow fonder. The more space there is between makes it even more special when you hear from that certain someone.

My Favorite Boy

Ran into my favorite barback, Jason who works at The Allegro, in front of Central Station the other day.
It was sincerely fantastic seeing him!
Aside from being totally gorgeous, he’s really nice.
Seriously.
Genuinely nice. When he asks how you’re doing you can tell he’s not asking to be polite—he really wants to know.
He was just coming back from spending the afternoon at the Inner Harbor with his new boyfriend, Stephen. I had head about Stephen from Jason, but this was my first time meeting him—or so I thought. Turns out I knew him. He used to work with me at Friendly’s and he’s the ex-boyfriend of a guy I dated briefly years ago.
It is a small world, after all!

Hung out with my friend Adrianna and her girlfriend Kim at The Hippo. They had just come from seeing One Hour Photo and said it was really Worth Seeing.
Adrianna used to work at a one hour photo shop and she said things like that really do happen and probably more often than you think.
Pretty creepy, huh?

Watchin' All The Boys Go By

I've always had mixed emotions about the end of summer. Lounging outside Central Station with a cocktail, watching the boys in tank tops and shorts will soon be over.
*sigh*
I long to go back to the days of early June when the warm weather made you think of the many hours of sun-drenched adventures to come. Halloween items are in most stores by now. Just another reminder that winter is Coming Soon.

Very Useful Things

Had a great day yesterday! The weather was perfect for a change so I shut off the AC and opened the windows wide to let some air in.
So refreshing!
Whenever the windows are open the neighbors look into my apartment as they walk by. I hate that!! It makes me feel like a zoo animal.

Tired from lack of sleep so I grabbed a cup of Joe and read the new Baltimore City Paper. I'm a member of the City Cafe "java club" which means after every 10 coffee drinks I get one free. I know--big whoop, right?
I love sitting outdoors at the City Cafe, drinking coffe, reading the paper, and watching all the boys walk by.
Serenity!

Then I decided to do some Very Useful Things. I went to the grocery store and picked up a few items and after I got back I made some iced tea--from scratch. Actually brewed the tea, added sugar--all by myself! I'm not much of a cook, so this was a major feat.
Considered organizing my closet but then I thought of how much work would go into that and changed my mind.

Got into a "lively discussion" with a friend regarding racial issues. I try to steer clear of such topics because they can turn ugly sometimes. Anyway, my friend was saying that most cartoons are "white" and I'm thinking "What?! Bugs Bunny isn't "white", he's a grey rabbit!" Assigning "race" to cartoon characters is ridiculous, if you ask me.

I found a site for gay comic book fans.

Wide Awake In Dreamland

I drank so much coffee yesterday that I couldn't get to sleep last night and now I'm tired, grumpy, and out of it.
The ironic thing is that I was going to take a sleeping pill last night, but I was afraid it would make me tired, grumpy, and out of it!
I was going to take this ephedrine stuff I got at Wal-Mart to perk me up a bit but I was afraid it would make me too jumpy.
So I'm just Dealing With It.

Took some time this morning to respond to all my emails and to send a few of my own.
My in-box is empty for once. That never happens!

Leon's held it's Miss Leon's contest on September 7th. I found out about it too late to go, which kind of pissed me off. I would've liked to have seen that.

Been dying to rent The Lord of the Rings, but the last DVD I rented from Blockbuster (Legally Blonde) I totally forgot about and returned 10 days late. I owe them $30 or something. It would've been cheaper to just buy the damn thing.

Totally addicted to Big Brother 3. At first I had only mild interest, and now I'm on the edge of my seat every episode wondering Who's Next To Go. This is why I don't watch much TV as a rule. If I didn't control it, that's all I would be doing.

Today happens to be Friday the 13th. Luckily, I'm not the superstitious type.

Crisis

I tidied up the old homestead, did the dishes, and put some clothes in the wash and was feeling pretty content in the fact that I was Getting Things Done.
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when all the household chores are done and over with. I always cherish this feeling because it doesn't happen very often.

Then, after all that tranquility, I nearly had a "crisis" when I checked my blog and found it was displaying all wrong.
For some reason the blogchalking gif wasn't displaying correctly and it was pushing all my post text to the right. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I just removed the image.
I'll see if I can figure out the bug and put it back soon. Somehow my archive and side links got extra large in the process, so I have to figure out how to fix that too. If it's not one thing it's another, right?

Since this is about the only thing I have to complain about, everything must be going pretty good!

Up!

Up early for a change. I'm off today, so I have the whole day to do whatever I want. Laundry isn't anywhere on my list of Fun Things To Do, but I'm almost out of socks and underwear so I gotta do it whether I like it or not.

Gotta remember to call Fireguy today. He just moved and I know how stressful that can be.

There's so many CDs I wanna get. I want Let Go by Avril Levigne, Shakira's Laundry Service, Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 10, just to name a few. Luckily, my birthday is right around the corner!

Isn't there any other gay (or lesbian) person in Baltimore with a blog? I just did a search on Google and came up with nothing. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one. I'm gonna geep looking, though.

Tired Of Sleeping

All I've been doing lately is sleeping. I slept close to 11 hours last night. I love to sleep, don't get me wrong. It's one of the things I do best, actually. I'm just not used to it.

Work's been okay, lately. Nothing's changed at the restaurant. I just think I'm getting tired of waiting tables. Thinking about going back to MCI Worldcom or something Customer Service related. At least then I wouldn't come home every day smelling like food.

Remember that furniture exchange thing with my upstairs neighbor? Well, we made the exchange. He got my sofa and loveseat and I got these two really neat chairs. They really brighten up the place. The next step is to put the deposit on the sofa I want, but that's gonna wait 'til I catch up some more on the bills.

Haven't had the chance to check my emails or to read anyone else's blogs, so that's what I'm gonna do now.

The drive to Virginia was long and boring. Acres and acres of nothing but acres and acres of nothing.
Virginia was beautiful and the people were very friendly. The salespeople and clerks actually smile at you and thank you when you pay them. Totally wasn't used to that, but it was refreshing. Friendly, you know?
The nightlife isn't all that. The closest place to hang was this place called Klub Ambush. And it wasn't really a "club"--more like a bar, a pool table, and a juke box.
Kind of like Leon's here in B'more, only a little bigger.
It was nice to get away though.

I realized after I got there that I forgot to get those delayed feeding things for my goldfish, so all the time I was there I kept thinking "I killed my fish. They're gonna starve to death because of me" and I was feeling like dirt about it. Way guilty, you know?
So, I got back and ran into the house and you know what? They were still alive! After 11 days with no food!
I have indestructible fish!

After I got home it was back to work. It was very busy, but I made alot of money, which was good.
Labor Day was horrible. I worked a day shift and we were busy. Total pandemonium. There were only 6 servers on the floor, and a line out the door for hours.
Every time I saw someone come in I was like "Get out, damn you!" (in my head, of course). It's not that I didn't want to wait on them, but I was already running around like a maniac, I couldn't handle much more.

Went to DC last night which was alot of fun. Got back to B'more in enough time for last call at Allegro. Saw D'Marje (pronounced "dee marge ay") a drag queen I've known for years. And my friend Ralph who does drag under the name Summer Skyy was there too. And my friend Paul. Kind of drank too much, though.
I had to shave my tongue when I got up this morning.

Anyway, gotta go and get my uniform ready for tonight.
I don't expect it to be busy, but you never know.
